Introduction: In recent years Early Clinical Exposure (ECE) has shown to be very effective in undergraduate medical education. However, there are very few studies in dentistry especially in our country and in the subject of prosthodontics.
Methodology: A total of 100 II B.D.S. stu dents were randomly allocated to 2 groups of 50 each. One of these groups were taught topic of complete denture primary impression in a conventional didactic way. For the second group, didactic lecture was followed by ECE in the form of clinical demonstration of complete denture primary impression. Objectively structured and validated questionnaire was used as a pre-test and post-test. For the ethical reasons, ECE was also given for the students in the first group after recording the data.
Results: Comparative Evaluation of the results between the groups was done using descriptive Analysis. student's “t “Test and “Chi- Square” Test.
Conclusion: Early Clinical Exposure as a method of innovative teaching and learning was comparatively very effective for proper visualisation and understanding of the complete denture procedures which are a part of preclinical teaching. If this study is replicated at multiple institutions in a uniform standardized way, ECE will be a very important tool for the effective teaching of the preclinical prosthodontics teaching.
